Acer Iconia A1-830

If you want a handy 8 inch tablet that won’t break the bank, the Acer Iconia A1-830 is worth looking at. It was just recently announced ahead of CES 2014 along with the Acer Iconia B1-720 and should make a good option for people looking for a budget tablet with decent performance. Let’s take a look at the specs.

The Iconia A1-830 features a 7.9 inch XGA IPS display (768 x 1024), which is the same size and resolution as the first generation iPad Mini. It’s also powered by a decent 1.6GHz dual core Intel Atom Z2560 processor coupled with 1GB RAM. There’s also 16GB of internal storage for good measure that’s expandable via micro SD, and while there’s no specifics on battery capacity, battery life is estimated at 7.5 hours.

SRP for the Acer Iconia A1-830 in the United States is $180, which is about Php7.7k after straight conversion. The actual price will likely be in the Php10k range when it actually reaches Philippine shores. Not bad for an international brand, and Acer will be releasing a smart cover, Bluetooth keyboard, and other accessories for the Iconia A1-830 when it officially goes on sale.

Back when I started MobileTechPinoy in 2012, phablets weren't a thing yet. I enjoyed the stares I got from iPhone owners whenever I whipped out my Samsung Galaxy Note at the time. I'm much more budget-conscious these days though and am perfectly fine with using phones from any of our locally brands.

It disappoints me that Acer has joined the league of those who are fixated with producing ipad mini lookalikes. Why not come up with something original and better tablet.
