Cherry Mobile Amethyst

Just how good of a phone can Php2k get you? Smartphones are getting less and less expensive, and the recently released Cherry Mobile Amethyst really pushes the price point boundaries for just how low you can go. It’s not a world beater by any means, but the Amethyst is a fairly good option if you just want something basic.

Cherry Mobile Amethyst Box and Back

The Cherry Mobile Amethyst features a 3.5 inch HVGA screen, 1GHz dual core processor, 256MB RAM and 2GB internal storage. It also manages to run Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. To be honest, with those specs, it won’t be able to run the most graphic intensive games, or even the more casual ones like Temple Run 2. However, if you just want something that will let your browse the internet or check your social media accounts via HSPA+, the Amethyst should do fine.

At Php2,299, you can’t really ask for much more can you? Still, it would have been nice if it had at least 512MB or 1GB RAM. Thankfully, Cherry Mobile already has such options, though you’d have to spend closer to Php3k.

Looking to get your hands on the Amethyst? It hasn’t been officially announced on Cherry Mobile’s Facebook page yet, but the SM North EDSA branch already has it on stock.

I'm much more budget-conscious these days though and am perfectly fine with using phones from any of our locally brands.
